Summertime and science illustrations

It's Summertime! Whoo hoo!
Paul LaCroix Still Life with Fruit 1864
In case you want to be a merperson this summer, it's do-able! Available at monikanaumann. The tails, which function in water, are made with a material called ‘mono fin,’ which is an apparently sturdy and durable swim fabric. The pieces, which are made to order, come in a variety of colors from orange to bright pink. Textured and as luminescent as you might expect to find on a real-life sea maiden, these are realistic in a way that is truly stunning. Priced at around $250, these might be an expensive splurge, but will surely delight anyone with a mermaid obsession.
With your mertail you might also wear webbed fingers.

This video blew me away! A crash course to shine

This one is also very powerful. Via MetaFilter: How to look your best the morning after

Okay, so this is the big news of the week and this is my favorite video, explaining what the heck is Higgs Boson anyway: The Higgs Boson Explained from PHD Comics on Vimeo.

Wandered around the Scientific Illustration site, enjoying all the interesting and beautiful images.
